What is meant by transgenic animal ?

Transgenic animals are animals produced via deliberate insertion of a foreign gene into their genome. Such animals are mostly created by the microinjection of desired gene into the pronuclei of a fertilised egg which is subsequently implanted into the oviduct of a surrogate mother, who gets pseudopregnant and gives birth to a hybrid or transgenic animal containing desired characters.
