Bacillus thuringiensis is a soil - borne ,Gram - positive bacterium .It is used to create a transgenic cotton plant having resistance to cotton bollworm . The genes having insecticidal properties in the bacterium are isolated and incorpoated into transgenic Bt cotton plants by using advanced biothechnological methods . During sporualation , many Bt strains produce crystal proteins (proteinaceous inclusions ) , called & -endotoxins , that have insectional activity .
