By chance , some molecules of RNA may have enzymatic properties, catalysing the assembly of copies of themselevs from the nucleotides in earth.s wate and these may have been the forerunner of life .
Protein - lipid microspheres enclsoing these RNA molecules may have formed the first cell - like organisms called a protocells.
