Explanation

In anther culture, floral buds are opened to remove immature anthers the pollen grains of these anthers are then cultured for the production of haploid embryoids. The plants produced by haploid culture are sterile. These haploids could be subjected to colchicine treatment in order to double their chromosome number. This results in the production of completely homozygous diploid plants.
