Discuss the role of hormones in spermatogenesis.

Text Solution

Verified by Experts

Spermatogenesis starts during puberty with the significant increase in hypothalamic hormone called Gonadotropin Releasing Hormone (GnRH). The increased level of GnRH acts on the anterior pituitary gland and stimulates the secretion of two gonadotropins. i.e., LH (Luteinising Hormone) and FSH (Follicle Stimulating Hormone).
LH acts on the Leydig cells and stimulates the, synthesis and secretion of androgens, which in turn stimulate the process of spermatogenesis.
FSH acts on Sertoli cells and stimulates the secretion of some factors, which help in the process of spermiogenesis.
