Calculate the de-Broglie wavelength of a...

Calculate the de-Broglie wavelength of a 5 Me V proton (mass of proton = `1.64xx10^(-27)kg,h=6.62xx10^(-34)Js`)

Text Solution

de-Broglie wavelength is
`lamda=h/(mv)=h/(sqrt(2mK))`
where, m is mass of particle, v is velocity of particle, h is Planck.s constant and K is kinetic energy of particle.
For proton, `lamda_(p)=h/(sqrt(2m_(p)K))`
or `lamda_(p)=(6.62xx10^(-34))/(sqrt(2xx1.64xx10^(-27)xx5xx10^(6)xx1.6xx10^(-19)))`
`[because1 MeV=10^(6)xx1.6xx10^(-19)J]`
`therefore lamda_(p)=1.29xx10^(-14)` m
