Two taps A and B supply water at temperature 10^(@)C and 50^(@)C respectively . Tap A alone fills the tank in 1 hour and tap B alone fills the tank in 3 hour. If we open both the taps together in the empty tank , if the final temperature of the water in the completely filled tank is found to be 5alpha ("in" "^(@)C) . Find the value of alpha . It can take 12 hours to fill a swimming pool using two pipes. If the pipe of larger diameter is used for 4 hours and the pipe of smaller diameter for 9 hours, only half the pool can be filled. How long would it take for each pipe to fill the pool seperately?

Selvi's house has an overhead tank in the sphase of a cylinder. This is filled by pumping water from a sump (an underground tank) which is in the shape of a cuboid. The sump has dimensions 1.57 mxx1.44m xx95 cm . The overhead tank has its radius 60cm and height 95 cm. Find the hieght of the water left in the sump after the overhead tank has been completely filled with water from the sump which had been full. Compare the capacity of the tank with that of the sump (Use pi=3.14)

A horizontal cylinderical tank (6)/(pi)m in diameter is half full of water. The space above the water is filled with a pressurized gas of unknown refractive index. A small laser can move along the curved bottom of the water and aims a light beam towards the centre of the water surface. When the laser has moved a distance s=1m or more (measured from curved face) from the lowest point in water, no light enters the gas. The refractive index of gas is (mu_("water") = 4//3)

A water tank has the shape of an inverted right circular cone with its axis vertical and vertex lowermost. Its semi-vertical angle is tan^(-1)(0.5) . A large open tank has two holes in the wall. One is a square hole of side L at a depth y from the top and the other is a circular hole of radius R at a depth 4y from the top. When the tank is completely filled with water, the quantities of water flowing out per second from both holes are the same. Then, R is equal to
