When a bus performing linear motion takes a sharp turn suddenly, the passengers tend to get thrown to one side. Explain.

Text Solution

Verified by Experts

The passengers sitting in the bus are in motion in a straight line along with the bus, When the bus takes a sharp turn, the body of the passengers in contact with the bus also takes turn. The upper part of the body, due to inertia, tries to remain in motion in the straight line. Hence, the passengers get thrown to one side of the seat.

When a bus at rest starts motion suddenly. passengers standing in it are pushed backward. It is an illustration of Newton's ......... law of motion. (first, second, third)

We are standing in a stationary bus. When bus suddenly start why we are thrown in backward direction ?

The relation between position and time f for a particle , performing one dimensional motion is as under : t = sqrt(x) +3 Here x is in metre and t is in second . (1) Find the displacement of the particle when its velocity becomes zero . (2) If a constant force acts on the particle , find the work done in first 6 second .

One day in the morning, Ramesh filled up 1/3 bucket of hot water from geyser, to take bath. Remaining 2/3 was to be filled by cold water (at room temperature) to bring mixture to a comfortable temperature. Suddenly Ramesh had to attend to something which would take take some times, say 5-10 minutes before he could take bath. Now he had two options : (1) fill the remaining bucket completely by cold water and then attend to the cork, (2) first attend to the work and fill the remaining bucket just before taking bath. Which option do you think would have kept water warmer ? Explain.

A mass of 2kg is put on a flat pan attached to a vertical spring fixed on the ground as shown in figure. The mass of the spring and the pan is negligible. When spring is pressed and released the mass executes a simple harmonic motion. The spring constant is 200 N"/"m . What should be the minimum amplitude of the motion so that the mass gets detached from the pan? (take g= 10 m"/"s^(2) )
