A hammer of mass 500 g.moving at 500 `ms^(-1)`. Strickes a nail .The nall stops the hammer in a very short time of 0.01 s .What is the force of the nail on the hammer?

Text Solution

Verified by Experts

Here,m=500 g=0.5 kg,u=50 `ms^(-1)` ,v=0
t=0.01 s
Acceleration of the hammer.
`a=(v-u)/(t)=(0-50)/(0.01)=-5000 ms^(-2)`
Force applied by the hammer on the nail.
`F=ma=0.5xx(-5000)`=-2500N
Magnitude of the applied by thr nail on hammer is 2500N.
(1) 30 `ms^(-1)` (2)75 m

It is well known that a raindrop falls under the influence of the downward gravitational force and the opposing resistive force. The latter is known to be proportional to the speed of the drop but is otherwise undetermined. Consider a drop of mass 1.00g falling from a height 1.00km . It hits the ground with a speed of 50.0 ms^(-1) . What is the work done by the unknown resistive force?
