How does the force of gravitation between two objects change when the distance between them is reduced to half?

Text Solution

Verified by Experts

The force of gravitional between two objects is `F=G (m_1m_2)/(d^2)`
If the distance is reduced to half `d.=d/2`
`F.=G (m_1m_2)/((d.)^(2))=G (m_1m_2)/((d//2)^(2))=4G (m_1m_2)/(d^2)=4F`
The force of gravition between two objects become 4 times the original force.

How much force of gravitation acted on a body at infinite distance from the earth ?

The force of repulsion between two point charges is F, when these are at a distance of 1 m . Now the point charges are replaced by spheres of radii 25 cm having the charge same as that of point charges. The distance between their centres is 1 m , then compare the force of repulsion in two cases.

How is the gravitational force between two point masses affected when they are dipped in water keeping the separation between them the same ?
