The volume of a 500 g sealed packet is 350 cm`""^(3)` Will the packet float or sink in water if the density of water is 1gcm`""^(3)?` What will be the mass of the water displaced by this packet?

Text Solution

Verified by Experts

Here, mass of the packet =500g
`=(500)/(1000)kg`
=0.5kg
The volume of the packet `=350cm^(3)`
`=350 xx 10^(-6)m^(3)`
Density of the packet `=("Mass")/("Volume")`
`=(0.5kg)/(350 xx 10^(-6)m^(3))`
`approx 1428kgm^(-3)`
The density of water is `1000 kgm^(-3)`. The density of sealed packet is more than that of water. So, the packet will sink in water.
Mass of water displaced by the packet
=volume of the packet `xx` density of water
`=350 xx 10^(-6) xx 1000`
=0.35kg
