The acceleration (g) acting on a body due to the earth is inversely proportional to the distance between the centre of the earth and the body. So as we go away from the earth.s surface, the distance between the centre of the earth and the body increases and the value of g decreases. The weight of a body W = mg. There is no change in the mass of the body, but while going away (upward) from surface of earth due to decrease in value of g, the weight decreases.
