An apple of mass 150 g falls on the surface of the earth from a negligible height (in comparison with the radius of the carth) due to gravitation. Calculate the gravitational force acting between the apple and the earth. Also calculate the acceleration produced in both of them due to the gravitational force.
`("Mass of the earth "= 6 xx 10^(24) kg` and Distance between the centre of the earth and the apple `=6.38 xx 10^(6)m).`

Text Solution

Verified by Experts

The correct Answer is:
1.47N
Acceleration produced in the apple `=9.8ms^(-2)`
Acceleration produced in the earth `=2.45 xx 10^(-25)ms^(-2)`

`F=(Gm M_e)/d^2`
`=(6.67 xx 10^(-11) xx 0.15 xx 6 xx 10^(24))/((6.38 xx 10^(6))^(2))`
=1.47M
To find acceleration produced in apple and the earth use the formula F=ma.
