What is the work done by the force of gravity on a satellite moving round the earth? Justify your answer.

Text Solution

Verified by Experts

The work done by the force of gravity on a satellite moving round the earth is zero. The force of gravity acts on the satellite along the radius of its orbit, while the displacement is along the tagent to the orbit at any point. Thus the force is perpendicular to the displacement. Hence, the work done on the satellite is zero.
