(a) When a molecule (or an elastic ball) hits a ( massive) wall, it rebounds with the same speed. When a ball hits a massive bat held firmly, the same thing happens. However, when the bat is moving towards the ball, the ball rebounds with a different speed. Does the ball move faster or slower? (b) When gas in a cylinder is compressed by pushing in a piston, its temperature rises. Guess at an explanation of this in terms of kinetic theory using (a) above. (c) What happens when a compressed gas pushes a piston out and expands. What would you observe ? (d) Sachin Tendulkar used a heavy cricket bat while playing. Did it help him in anyway ?

Two identical ball bearings in contact with each other and resting on a frictionless table are hit heat-on by another ball bearing of the same mass moving initially with a speed V as shown in figure. If the collision is elastic, which of the following (figure) is a possible result after collision ?

When electrons drift in a metal from lower to higher potential, does it mean that all the 'free' electrons of the metal are moving in the same direction ?

A car is traveling on a straight level track with a uniform speed of 25 m/s. When the car is moving away from a gun at the same level at a distance of 1500 m the gun is fired at an angle of 45^(@) . Find the distance of the car (kilometers) from the gun when it is hit.

Assertion :- A particle on earth found to be at rest when seen from a frame U_(1) and moving with a constant velocity when seen from another frame U_(2) . Then both frames may be non - inertial. Reason :- A reference frame attached to the earth must be an inertial frame.

Assertion: When a particle moves with constant velocity its average velocity, its insttantaneous velocity and its speed are all equal in magnitude. Reason: If the average velocity of a particle moving on a straight line is zero in a time interval, then it is possible that the instantaneous velocity is never zero in the internal.

Consider a water jar of radius R that has water filled up to height H and is kept on a stand of height h (see figure) through a hole of radius r(rltltR) at its bottom the water leaks out and the stream of water coming down towards the gound has a shape like a funnel as shown in the figure. it the radius of teh cross-section of water stream when it hits the ground is x. then.
