Because when the earth revolves around the sun, the gravitational force of the sun acting on the earth is towards the centre and displacement of the earth is tangential to the circular orbit. Thus, the displacement of the earth is perpendicular to the gravitational force of the sun. When displacement is perpendicular to the force, the work done `W=F_(1)xxs=0xxs=0`. So, when the earth revolves around the sun, the work done by the gravitational force of the sun is zero.
