Here, speed of sound v = 342 m`s^(1)` : time - 3s, distance of the reflecting surface from the source ?
The distance travelled by sound,
`2d=vxxt` [2d distance from the source to the reflecting surface and back]
`therefore d=(vxxt)/(2)=(342xx3)/(2)=513mm`
The distance of the reflecting surface from the source is 513 m.

A SONAR (sound navigation and ranging) uses ultrasonic waves to detect and locate objects under water. In a submarine equipped with a SONAR , the time delay between generation of a probe wave and the reception of its echo after reflection from an enemy submarine is found to be 77.0s. What is the distance of the enemy submarine ? (Speed of sound in water = 1450 ms^(-1)) .

A bat emits ultrasonic sound of frequency 1000kHz in air. If the sound meets a water surface. What is the wavelength of (a) the reflected sound (b) the transmitted sound? Speed of sound in air is 340ms^(1) and in water 1486 ms^(-1)
