A stone is dropped from the top of a tower 500 m high into a pond of water at the base of the tower. When is the splash heard at the top? Given g = 10 `ms^(-1)` and speed of sound = 340 `ms^(-1)`.

Here,u=0 , g=10 `ms^(-2)`, h=500,t=?
`h+ut+(1)/(2)"gt"^(2)`……….(the equation of motion)
`therefore 500=0xxt+(1)/(2)xx10xxt^(2)`
`therefore 500=5t^(2) therefore t^(2)=100 therefore t=10s`
Thus after 10 s stone touches the surface of water of pond .
Now ,time taken by the sound of splash from the base of the tower to the top.
`t.=("distance")/("speed")=(500)/(400)~~1.47s`
Total time after which the splash is heard The splash will be heard after 1.47S
