The acronym SONAR stands for Sound NAvigation And Ranging Sonar is a device that uses ultrasonic waves to measure the distance, direction and speed of underwater objects, e.g, submarines, sunken ships, oceanic rocks, etc.

Sonar consists of (i) a transmitter and (ii) a detector and is installed on a ship.
The transmitter produces and transmits ultrasonic waves. These waves travel down the water and after striking the object on the seabed, get reflected back in the form of echo and are sensed by the detector.
The detector converts the ultrasonic waves into electrical signals which are appropriately interpreted. The distance of the object that reflected the sound wave can be calculated by knowing the speed of sound in water and the time interval between transmission and reception of the ultrasound.
If the time interval between the transmission and reception of ultrasound ist and the speed of sound in seawater is u, then the total distance, 2d travelled by the ultrasound is `2d= v xx t`
.The sonar method is called echo ranging This technique is used to determine the depth of sea, to locate underwater hills, submarine, sunken ship, etc.

The triple-point of water is a standard fixed point in modern thermometry. Why? What is wrong in taking the melting point of Ice and the bothing point of water as standard fixed points as was originally done in the Celsius scale) ?

The triple - point of water is a standard fixed point in modern thermometry. Why ? What is wrong in taking the melting point of ice and the boiling point of water as standard fixed points (as was originally done in the Celsius scale) ?

There were two fixed points in the original Celsius scale which were assigned the number 0^(@)C and 100^(@)C respectively. On the absolute scale, one of the fixed point is the triple - point of water, which on the Kelvin absolute scale is assigned the number 273.16 K. What is the other fixed point on this (Kelvin) scale ?

In countries like USA and Canada, temperature is measured in Fahrenheit, whereas in countries like India, it is measured in Celsius . Here is a linear equation that converts Fahrenheit to Celsius : F = (9/5) C+32 Draw the graph of the linear equation above using Celsius for x - axis and Fahrenheit for y - axis .
