Why is graphite a more preferred lubricant to the ordinary lubricating oils?

Text Solution

Graphite is highly resistant to heat, and therefore, used as lubricant in those parts of machinery where high heat is generated due to friction. In the above case, ordinary lubricating oils get charred at high temperatures.
