Explain the principle of atomic hydrogen torch.

Text Solution

Verified by Experts

When an electric arc is generated in a stream of hydrogen between tungsten electrodes, the hydrogen molecules dissociate to give hydrogen atoms. The atoms recombine to form hydrogen molecules by releasing heat energy. As a result, high temperature can be obtained. This can be made use of in welding alloys.
