`H_(2)SO_(4)` being a dehydrating agent removes hydrogen and oxygen from the skin in the form of water thereby damaging the skin. `HNO_(3)` reacts with skin proteins forming xanthoproteins, and hence, imparts yellow colour to skin and forms painful blisters.
