An atom of element E contains 3 protons, 3 electrons and 4 neutrons : (a) What is its atomic number ?

A neutron, a proton, an electron and an alpha particle enter a region of constant magnetic field with equal velocities. The magnetic field is along the inward normal to the plane of paper. The tracks of the particles are labelled in Fig. SAQ 11. which of the tracks show the path of the electron and alpha-particles ?

Select the correct statement(s): a) Mass number remains constant when positron emission takes place b) One neutron converts into proton in beta(._(-1)^(0)e) emission process c) Activity of a radioactive substance double when temp. increases from 300 K to 310 K d) Isodiaphers formed when one alpha particle emitted and isotopes formed when 2 beta particles emitted

It is now believed that protons and neutrons (which constitute nuclei of ordinary matter) are themselves built out of more elementary units called quarks. A proton and a neutron consist of three quarks each. Two types of quarks, the so called ‘up’ quark (denoted by u) of charge + (2//3) e, and the ‘down’ quark (denoted by d) of charge (-1//3) e, together with electrons build up ordinary matter. (Quarks of other types have also been found which give rise to different unusual varieties of matter.) Suggest a possible quark composition of a proton and neutron.

Does the ratio of neutrons to protons in a nucleus increase, decrease or remain the same after the emission of alpha-particl es .
