SARS (Severe Acute Respiratory Syndrome) is due to a human corona virus (HCV) that produces atypical pneumonia, lung infection, dry cough, hypoxia, fever, discomfort, confusion, diorrhoea. It is an enveloped ssRNA containing ribovirus with incubation period of 2-7 and may be upto 10 days. It is a mutant of influenza virus/common cold virus. It spreads through contact/respiratory/secretions and cookroaches and diagnosed by ELISA and Rapid Molecular Genetic Test.
