During the studies on genes in Drosopila that were sex-linked T.H. Morgan found F2-populabon phenotypic ratios deviated from expected 9 : 3 : 3 : 1. Explain the conclusion he arrived at.

Verified by Experts

Morgan attributed this due to the physical association or linkage of the two genes and coined the term to describe this physical association of genes on a chromosome and the term recombination to describe the generation of non- also found to est gere combinations. Morgan and his co-workers that even when genes were grouped on the same chromosomes, some genes were very tightly linked which showed very low recombination while others were loosely linked which showed higher recombination. For example, he found that genes for white and yellow body colour were tightly linked and showed only 1.3 percent recombination while white and miniature wing showed 37.2 percent recombination

During its studies on genes in drosophila that wen sex linked, T.H. Morgan found F, population phenotypic ratio deriated from expected 9:3:3:1. Explain. The conclusion be arrived at.

In a typical monohybrid cross the F_(2) -population ratio is written as 3:1 for phenotype but expressed as 1:2:1 for genotype. Explain with the help of an exmaple.

In F_(2) generation, a ratio of 1:4:6:4:1 is obtained instead of 9:3:3:1, when two pairs of genes are considered, it indicates

Consider the D–T reaction (deuterium–tritium fusion) ""_(1)^(2)H + ""_(1)^(3)H to ""_(2)^(4)He + n (a) Calculate the energy released in MeV in this reaction from the data: m (""_(1)^(2)H) = 2.014102u m(""_1^(3)H) = 3.016049 u (b) Consider the radius of both deuterium and tritium to be pproximately 2.0 fm. What is the kinetic energy needed to overcome the coulomb repulsion between the two nuclei? To what temperature must the gas be heated to initiate the reaction? (Hint: Kinetic energy required for one fusion event =average thermal kinetic energy available with the interacting particles = 2(3kT/2), k = Boltzman’s constant, T = absolute temperature.)
