Select the option which is not correct with respect to enzyme action

A

Malonate is a competitive inhibitor of succinate dehydrogenase

B

Substrate binds with enzyme at its active site

C

Addition of a lot of succinate does not reverse inhibition of succinic dehydrogenase by malonate

D

A non-competitive inhibitor binds the enzyme at a site distinct form that which binds the substrate.

Text Solution

Verified by Experts

The correct Answer is:
C

Inhibition of succine dehydrogen by malonate is an example of competitive inhibition, where malonate occupies the active site of the enzyme and blocks it . However this kind of inhibition is reversible and increase in substrate concentration wil reverse this inhibtion . In non-competitive inhibition the inhibitor binds to the enzyme at a site different form its substrate binding site (i.e., the active site).
