Explain what is observed when
(i) KCl, an electrolyte, is added to hydrated ferric, oxide sol,
(ii) an electriic current is passed through a colloidal solutution,
(iii) a beam of lights is passed through a colloidal solution.

Text Solution

The colloidal particles are charged and carry either a negative or a positive charge. When electric current is passed through the colloidal solution the charged colloidal particles or discharge phase start moving towards the oppositely charged electrode and coagulate after losing their charges on reaching to the electrode.
