Three particles A, B, C, of equal masses...

Three particles A, B, C, of equal masses move with equal speed V along -the medians of an equiliteral triangle as shown in the diagram below. They collide at the centroid G of the triangle. After the collision A comes to rest, B retraces its path with speed V. What is the velocity of C ?

A

V in the direction of B

B

V in the direction opposite to B

C

2V in the direction of B

D

2V in the direction opposite to B.

When is a collision said to be a perfectly inelastic? A mass is moving with speed v collides inelastically with another identical mass at rest. After collision, the first mass moves with velocity frac(nu)(sqrt 3) in a direction perpendicular to the initial direction of motion. Find the speed of the second mass after collision.

A disc rotating about its axis with angular speed ?Qis placed lightly (without any translational push) on a perfectly frictionless table. The radius of the disc is R. What are the linear velocities of the points A, B and C on the disc shown in Fig. 7.41? Will the disc roll in the direction indicated?

A famous relation in physics relates ‘moving mass' m to the ‘rest mass’ m_0 of a particle in terms of its speed v and the speed of light, c. (This relation first arose as a consequence of s'pecial relativity due to Albert Einstein). A boy recalls the relation almost correctly but forgets where to put the constant c. He writes: m = m_0/(1-v^2)^(1/2)

A passenger arriving in a new town wishes to go from the station to a hotel located 10 km away on a straight road from the station. * A dishonest cabman takes him along a circuitous path 23 km long and reaches the hotel in 28 min. What is (a) the average speed of the taxi, (b) the magnitude of average velocity? Are the two equal?
