Unambiguous, universal and degenerate are some of the terms used for the genetic code. Explain the salient features of each of them.

Unambiguous code means that one codon codes for only one amino acid, i.e. AUG codes only for methionine. Generic code is universal, as particular codon codes for the same amino acid in all organisms. It is degenerate because some amino acids are coded by more than one codon, e.g. UUU and UUC, both code for phenylalanine
