Amino acids in the cytoplasm are inactive. They cannot take part directly in protein synthesis or translation. The formation of peptide bond requires energy. In the presence of ATP, amino acids become activated by binding with aminoacyl tRNA synthase enzyme, i.e. aminoacylation.
