A German Biologist, August Weismann (1834-1914) was the main critic of Lamarck. He proposed the theory "The continuity of germplasm.. He cut the tail of mice for 21 generations. There was no diiference in the length of the tail in the offspring of 22nd generation as compared to the tail length in the parents of first generation.
