Explain the term metastasis. Why is it fatal?

Metastasis is the phenomenon of sloughing off of tumour cels and reaching the other parts of body via blood and start forming a new tumour there. It is common in case if malignant tumour. However, this process can be fatal because of the fact that it leads to spreading of the tumour all over the body.
