A red substance formulated as `O_(2)^(+)PtF_(6)` was first prepared by N Bartlett He then , oberved that the first ionisation enthalpy of molecular oxygen was similar to that of xenon .That is what inspired him to carry out the reaction between Xe and `PtF_(6)`.
