Predict all alkenes that would be formed...

Predict all alkenes that would be formed by the dehydrohalogenation of the following halides with sodium ethoxide in ethanol and identify the major alkene.
1-bromo-1-methylcyclohexane

Text Solution

Verified by Experts

On reacting with sodium ethoxide in ethanol, the H-atom from `beta`-carbon atom is eliminated. This is called `beta`-elimination. Simultaneously, elimination of halogen atom from `alpha`-carbon takes place.
1-bromo-1-methylcyclohexane has two `beta`-hydrogen atoms.

So, two products will be formed.
