Boiling point of water is `100^(@)C`. Calculate the boiling point of an aqueous solution containing 5g urea (Mol. Mass = 60) in 100 g water (`K_(b)` for water `= 0.52 K kg mol^(-1)`).

Text Solution

Given, boiling point water water `= 100^(@)C`
`(273 + 100 = 373 K)`
Weight of water `(W_(1)) = 100g = 0.1 g`
Molal elevation contant `(K_(b)) = 0.52 K kg mol^(-1)`
Weight of solute (urea) `(W_(2)) = 5g`
Molar mass of urea = `60 g mol^(-1)`
We know that, `Delta T_(b) = K_(b)m`
`T_(b) - T_(b)^(@) = (K_(b) xx W_(2))/(M_(2) xx W_(1))`
`T_(b) - 373 K = (0.52 K kg mol^(-1) xx 5g)/(60 g mol^(-1) xx 0.1 kg)`
`T_(b) = 373.4 K` or `100.4^(@)C`
