Sulphur has a greater tendency for catenation than oxygen.

Oxygen shows catenation behaviour less than sulphur. Due to its smaller size oxygen experiences repulsions between their lone pair of electrons present on oxygen atom and bond pair of O–O bond hence, O-O bonds are weaker than S-S bonds.
