Between sodium hydrogen carbonate and magnesium hydroxide, which is a better antacid and why?

Text Solution

Verified by Experts

Magnesium hydroxide is a better antacid because being insoluble it does not allow the pH to increase above 7(neutrality). In contrast, sodium hydrogen carbonate being soluble, excess of it can make the stomach alkaline and trigger the generation of even more acid.
