A detergent has a large non-ionic hydrocarbon group and an ionic group like sulphonate group, `SO_3^- Na^+ ` , e.g. Sodium n. dodecyl benzene sulphonate. `(CH_3 - (CH_2)_11 -C_6H_4-SO_3 Na^+ )`
