What is the volume of `H_2` produced by the decomposition of 5L of `NH_3` at STP?

Text Solution

Verified by Experts

Let `v_(1)" and "v_(2)` be the volumes of nitrogen and hydrogen respectively then
`{:(" "2NH_(3)(g) to N_(2)(g)+3H_(2)(g)),(" at "t=0" "5L" "0 " "0),(" at "t= propto" "0 " "v_(1)L " "v_(2)L):}`
Ratio of volumes of `NH_(3), N_(2)" and "H_(2)` is `5: v_(1) : v_(2) :: 2 : 1 : 3`
Volume of hydrogen, `v_(2) implies (5)/(v_2)= (2)/(3) implies v_(2)= (15)/(2)= 7.5L`.
