How many moles of `KMnO_4` are required in the acidic medium for complete oxidation of 15 mol of `FeSO_4`?

A

2

B

3

C

4

D

5

Text Solution

Verified by Experts

The correct Answer is:
B

The reaction involved is: `MnO_4^(-) + 5Fe^(2+) + 8H^(+) to Mn^(2+) + 5Fe^(3+) + 4H_2O`
Hence, 5 mole of `FeSO_4` are completely oxidized by 1 mol of `KMnO_4` and 15 mol of `FeSO_4` are completely oxidized by `(1 xx15)/(5) = 3 `mol of `KMnO_4`
