A train runs along an unbanked circular track of radius 30 m at a speed of 54 km//h . The mass of the train is 10^6 kg . What provides the centripetal force required for this purpose — Hie engine or the rails ? What is the angle of banking required to prevent wearing out of the rail ?

When brakes are applied in a car,the brake-shoes apply frictional force on the wheels.these forces are internal for the system(car). For retardation, external forces ust act on the system. The force of friction at the road surface remains the same before and after teh brakes are applied (f = mu N) .How does the car stop?

On complete combustion a litre of petrol gives off heat equivalent to 3 xx 10^7 J . In a test drive a car weighing 1200 kg, including the mass of driver, runs 15 km per litre while moving with a uniform speed on a straight track. Assuming tha friction offered by the road surface and air to be uniform, calcuate the force of friciton acting on the car during the test drive, if the efficiency of the car engine were 0.5.
