A separate high freq. wave (i.e. carrier wave) is needed in modulation why ?

Text Solution

Verified by Experts

This is because we cannot any of the characterostics (amplitude, frequency or phase) of the audio signal as this would change the message to be communicated. So keeping the audio signal same, the amplitude of freq. or phase of the high freq. carrier wave is modified in accordance with the modulating (i.e. audio signal) signal.

(a) Give reason why transverse waves can be propagated in solids, (b) Give reason why longitudinal waves can be propagated through all the three types of media - solids, liquids and gases. (c) Describe in brief about two types of waves that can be propagated on the free surface of water.

The following equations represent transverse waves : z_(1) = A cos(kx - omegat) , z_(2) = A cos (kx + omegat) , z_(3) = A cos (ky - omegat) Identify the combination (s) of the waves which will produce (i) standing wave(s), (ii) a wave travelling in the direction making an angle of 45^(@) with the positive x and positive y axes. In each case, find the positions at which the resultant is always zero.

You have learnt that a travelling wave in one dimension is represented by a function y =f (x,t) where x and t must appear in the combination x - vt or x + or v + vt, i.e. y = f ( x pm vt). Is the converse ture ? Examine if the following functions for y can possibly represent a travelling wave: (a) (x-vt)^(2) (b) log [ ((x + v _(t)))/(x _(0))] (c ) (1)/((x + vt))
