Two identical conductors `P` and `Q` are placed on two friction less rails `R` and `S` in a uniform magnetic field directed into the plane. If `P` is moved in the direction shown in figure with a constant speed, then rod `Q`

A

Will be attracted towards 'P'

B

Will be repelled away from 'P'

C

Will remain staionary

D

May be repelled (or) attracted towards 'P'

Text Solution

The correct Answer is:
A

From Lenz law, if one rod is moved away from the second rod then seconds rod will be attracted towards first due to motion of 'p' area under rectangle and hence flux increase. To oppose this area of rectangle should decrease. So 'Q' moves towards P

A loop is formed by two parallel conductors connected by a solenoid with inductance L=2H and a conducting rod of mass m=80g, which can freely (without fricition) slide over the conductors. The conductors are located in a horizontal plane in a uniform vertical magnetic field with induction B=4T. The distance between the conductors is equal to l=4cm. At the moment t=0 the rod is imparted an initial velocity v_(0)=2 cm//s directed to the right. Find the amplitude (in cm) for the oscillations of conducting rod, if the electric resistance of the loop is negligible.

Figure shows planar loops of different shapes moving out of or into a region of a magnetic field which is directed normal to the plane of the loop away from the reader. Determine the direction of induced current in each loop using Lenz's law.

The figure shows a particle (carrying charge +q) at the orgin. A uniform magnetic field is directed into the plane of the paper. The particle can be projected only in the plane of paper and along positive or negative x- or y-axis. The particle moves with constant speed and has to hit a target located in the third quadrant. There are two direction of projections, which can make it possible, these are

A toy car with charge q moves on a frictionless horizontal plane surface under the influence of a uniform electric field vecE. Due to the force q vecE, its velocity increases from 0 to 6 m/s in one second duration. At that instant the direction of the field is reversed. The car continues to move for two more second under the influence of this filed. The average velocity and the average speed of the toy car between 0 to 3 seconds are respectively,

A rectangular conducting loop consists of two wires on two opposite sides of length 1 joined together by rods of length d. The wires are each of the same material but with cross sections differing by a factor of 2. The thicker wire has a resistance R and the rods are of low resistance, which in turn are connected to a constant voltage source V_(0) . The loop is placed in uniform a magnetic field vecB at 45^(@) to its plane. Find the torque exerted by the magnetic field on the loop about an axis through the centres of rods.

A coil having 10 Am^2 magnetic moment is placed in a vertical plane & is free to rotate about its horizontal axis coincides with its diameter. A uniform magnetic field of 2T in the horizontal direction exists such that initially the axis of the coil is in the direction of the field. The coil rotates through an angle of 90^@ under the influence of magnetic field. The moment of Inertia of coil is 0.1 kg m^2 . What will be its angular speed?
