Find charge on each spherical shell afte...

Find charge on each spherical shell after joining the inner most shell outer most shell by a conducting wire. Also find charges on each surface.

Text Solution

Verified by Experts

Let the charge on the innermost sphere be x.
Finally poyential of shell `1 =` Potential of shell `3`
`(kx)/(R)+(K(-2Q))/(2R)+(K(6Q-x))/(3R)=(KQ)/(3R)+(k(-2q))/(3R)+(k(5 Q))/(3R)`
`3x-3Q+6Q-x=4Q, 2x=Q, x=Q/2`
Charge on innermost shell `=Q/2`, charge on outermost shell`=(11Q)/(2)`
middle shell `=-2Q`
final charge distribution is as shown in figure.

Shown in the figure a spherical shell with an inner radius 'a' and an outer radius 'b' is made of conducting metarial. A charge +Q is placed at the centre of the spherical shell and a total charge -q s placed on the shell. Charge -q is districuted on the surfaces as :

The two conducting spherical shells are joined by a conducting wire and cut after some time when charge stops flowing. Find out the charge on each sphere after that.

Three concentric conducting spherical shells have radii r, 2r, and 3r and charges q_1,q_2 and q_3 , respectively. Innermost and outermost shells are earthed as shown in figure. The charges shown are after earthing. Select the correct alternative.

A point source of heat of power P is placed at the centre of a spherical shell of mean radius R. The material of the shell has thermal conductivity K. If the temperature difference between the outer and inner surface of the shell in not to exceed T, the thickness of the shell should not be less than .......

A small sphere of radius r_(1) and charge q_(1) is enclosed by a spherical shell of radius r and charge q_(2) Show that if q_(1) is positive, charge will necessarily flow from the sphere to the shell (when the two are connected by a wire) no matter what the charge q_(2) on the shell is.

Column-I gives certain situations involving two thin conducting shells connected by a conducting wire via a key K. In all situation one sphere has net charge +q and other sphere has no net charge. After the key K is pressed, column-II gives some resulting effect.

When two concentric shells are connected by a thin conducting wire, whole of the charge of inner shell transfers to the outer shell and potential difference between them becomes zero. Surface charge densities of two thin concentric spherical shells are sigma and -sigma respectively. Their radii are R and 2R . Now they are connected by a thin wire. Suppose electric field at a distance r (gt 2R) was E_(1) before connecting the two shells and E_(2) after connecting the two shells, then |E_(2)/E_(1)| is :-
