Two girls of equal mass m jump off from ...

Two girls of equal mass `m` jump off from the border line of a stationary carriage of mass `M` with same horizontal velocity `u` relative to the carriage in same direction. Neglect the effect of friction. Mark correct options.

A

They will impart greater velocity to the carriage by jumping of simultaneously

B

They will impart greater velocity to the carriage by jumping one after the other

C

They will impart same velocity to the carriage in whatever manner they jump off.

D

The correct Answer is:
B

Ans.(2)
When girls jump one by one total velocity of the system will be more (because from conservation of momentum, velocity of car in this case will be
`u_(car)=u((1)/(M+2m)+(1)/(M+m))m` instead of
`m u((1)/(M+2m)+(1)/(M+2m))` when they jump simultaneously.

A cannon of mass 5m (including a shell of mass m) is at rest on a smooth horizontal ground, fires the shell with its barrel at an angle theta with the horizontal at a velocity u relative to cannon. Find the horizontal distance of the point where shell strikes the ground from the initial position of the cannon :-

Two cars A and B are at positions 100 m and 200 m from the origin at t = 0. They start simultaneously with constant velocities 10 ms^(-1) and 5 ms^(-1) respectively in the same direction. Calculate the time and position at which they will overtake one another.

Two bodies, each of mass M, are kept fixed with a separation 2L. A particle of mass m is projected from the midpoint of the line joining their cehntres, perpendicualr to the line. The gravitational constant is G. The correct statement (s) is (are)

Two cars A and B are at positions 50 m and 100 m from the origin at t = 0. They start simultaneously with constant velocities 10 m/s and 5 m/s respectively in the same direction. Find the time at which they will overtake one another.

Two blocks of masses m and M are held against a compressed spring on a frictionless horizontal floor with the help of a light thread. When the thread is cut, the smaller block leaves the spring with a velocity u relative to the larger block. Find the recoil velocity of the larger block.

A car P is moving with a uniform speed 5sqrt3 m//s towards a carriage of mass 9 kg at rest kept on the rails at a point B as shown in figure. The height AC is 120 m. Cannon balls of 1 kg are fired from the car with an initial velocity 100m//s at an angle 30^@ with the horizontal. The first cannon hall hits the stationary carriage after a time t_0 and sticks to it. Determine t_0 . At t_0 , the second cannon ball is fired. Assume that the resistive force between the rails and the carriage is constant and ignore the vertical motion of the carriage throughout. If the second ball also hits and sticks to the carriage, what will be the horizontal velocity of the carriage just after the second impact?

Two light trollwys of masses m_(1) and m_(2) (= 3m_(1)) are connected by a spring. The spring is compressed and bound by a cord. The cord is burnt through, the spring expands and the trolleys move off in opposite direction. Assume that the coefficient of friction is the same for both trollwys.

Two satellites of same mass m are revolving round of earth (mass M) in the same orbit of radius r. Rotational directions of the two are opposite therefore, they can collide. Total mechanical energy of the system (both satallites and earths) is (m lt lt M) :-
