Cooking gas container are kept in a lorry moving with uniform speed. The temperature of the gas molecules inside will

A

increase

B

decrease

C

remains same

D

decrease for some , while increase for others

Text Solution

Verified by Experts

The correct Answer is:
C

The temperature of gas molecules depends on the average kinetic energy associated with the disorderly motion (i.e.,random motion) of the gas molecules . The orderly kinetic energy of the molecules of gas container will increase in the lorry, whereas disorderly kinetic energy will still remain the same , hence the temperature of the gas molecules will remain unchanged.

n' moles of an ideal gas undergoes a process AtoB as shown in the figure. The maximum temperature of the gas during the process will be:

Increase in temperature of a gas filled in a container would lead to:

In Fig., a container is shown to have a movable (without friction) piston on top. The container and the piston are all made of perfectly insulating material allowing no heat transfer between outside and inside the container. The container is divided into two compartments by a rigid partition made of a thermally conducting material that allows slow transfer of heat. the lower compartment of the container is filled with 2 moles of an ideal monoatomic gas at 700 K and the upper compartment is filled with 2 moles of an ideal diatomic gas at 400 K. the heat capacities per mole of an ideal monoatomic gas are C_(upsilon) = (3)/(2) R and C_(P) = (5)/(2) R , and those for an ideal diatomic gas are C_(upsilone) = (5)/(2) R and C_(P) = (7)/(2) R. Consider the partition to be rigidly fixed so that it does not move. when equilibrium is achieved, the final temperature of the gases will be

An insulated container of gas has two chambers separated by an insulating partition. One of the chambers has volume V_1 and contains ideal gas at pressure P_1 and temperature T_1 .The other chamber has volume V_2 and contains ideal gas at pressure P_2 and temperature T_2 . If the partition is removed without doing any work on the gas, the final equilibrium temperature of the gas in the container will be

A cylinder of fixed capacity 44.8 litres contains helium gas at standard temperature and pressure. What is the amount of heat needed to raise the temperature of the gas in the cylinder by 15.0^(@)C ? ( R= 8.31Jmol^(-1)K^(-1) )

Let barv,v_(rms) and v_p respectively denote the mean speed. Root mean square speed, and most probable speed of the molecules in an ideal monoatomic gas at absolute temperature T. The mass of a molecule is m. Then

Two cylinders A and B fitted with pistons contain equal amounts of an ideal diatomic gas at 300K. The piston of A is free to move, while that B is held fixed. The same amount of heat is given to the gas in each cylinder. If the rise in temperature of the gas in A is 30K, then the rise in temperature of the gas in B is
