What is the length of the image of the rod in mirror, according to the observer in air? (refractive index of the liquid is `mu`)

A

`muL + L`

B

`L + (L)/(mu)`

C

`Lmu + (L)/(mu)`

D

None of these

Text Solution

Verified by Experts

The correct Answer is:
B

When observer in rarer medium and objects is in denser medium then the length of immersed portion will be shorter (apparent) Hence length of image of rod in water =`2L +muL - L = L+muL`
Hence length of image of rod seen by observer in air is = `(L + muL)/(mu) = (L)/(mu) +L` . Hence [B]

What is the unit of refractive index?

When a pin is moved along the principal axis of a small concave mirror, the image position coincides with the object at a point 0.5 m from the mirror refer figure . If the mirror is placed at a depth of 0.2 m in a transparent liquid, the same phenomenon occurs when the pin is placed 0.4 m from the mirror . The refractive index of the liquid is :-

A concave mirror has the form of a hemisphere with a radius of R=60cm A thin layer of an unknown transparent liquid is poured into the mirror ,The mirror-liquids system forms one real Image and another real image is formed by mirror alone ,with the sources in a certain position .One of them coincides with the source and the other is at distance of l=30 cm from source.find the possible value(s) refractive index mu of the liquid.

An observer can see through a pin-hole the top end of a thin rod of height h, placed as shown in the figure. The beaker height is 3h and its radius h. When the beaker is filled with a liquid up to a height 2h, he can see the lower end of the rod. Then the refractive index of the liquid is

Figure shows an equiconvex lens (of refractive index 1.50) in contact with a liquid layer on top of a plane mirror. A small needle with its tip on the principal axis is moved along the axis until its inverted image is found at the position of the needle. The distance of the needle from the lens is measured to be 45.0 cm. The liquid is removed and the experiment is repeated. The new distance is measured to be 30.0 cm.
