Suppose refractive indes mu is given as ...

Suppose refractive indes `mu` is given as `mu=A+B//lambda^(2)`, were A and B are constants and `lambda` is wavelenght then the dimension of B are same as that of

A

wavelength

B

pressure

C

area

D

volume

Text Solution

Verified by Experts

The correct Answer is:
C

Refractive index,
`mu = ("velocity of light in vacuum")/("velocity of light in medium")`
Since `mu` is dimensionless, hence `(B)/(lamda^(2))` is dimensionless.
`therefore ` Dimension of B will have the dimension of `lamda^(2)`.
Hence B has a dimension of area.
