Answer the following, giving reason:-
(a) When light travels from a denser to a rarer medium, the speed increases. Does it mean that there is an increase in the energy carried by the waves ?
(b) The Sun appears reddish at sunset and sunrise.

(a) Energy carried by the wave does not change. Denser to rarer medium Speed of light increases, wavelength also increases but frequency remains same.
`V=(V)/(lambda), = (c)/(lambda)`
(b) At sunset and sunrise, the sun’s rays have to pass through a longer distance in the atmosphere. Most of the blue and other shorter wave lengths are removed by scattering. The least scattered light reaches our eyes. Therefore, sun looks reddish.

The transverse displacement of a string (clamped at its both ends) is given by y(x, t) = 0.06 sin ((2 x)/(3) x) cos (120 pi t) where x and y are in m and t in s.
