The correct Answer is:
B

The warming up of global atmosphere present day is due to the increase in green house effect. Green house effect (GHE) describe the roles of water vapour, `CO_(2)` and other trace gases in keeping the Earth's surface warmer than it would be otherwise. These radiatively active gases are relatively transparent to incoming shortwave radiation (visible spectrum), but are relatively opaque to outgoing reradiating (infared rays) longwave radiation. The latter radiation, which would otherwise escape to space, is trapped by these gases within the lower levels of the atmosphere. The subsequent reradiation of some of the energy back to the surface maintains surface temperature higher than they would be if the gases were absent (without the green house effect the Earth's average golobal temperature would be-18 degree celsius rather than the present 15 degree celsius). There is concern that increasing concentration of the green house gases including `CO_(2), CH_(4)` and man made chlorofluorocarbons (CFCS), may enhance the green house effect and cause global warming.

Ozone layer present in the stratosphere is depleted by the aerosols and chloroflurocarbons. Ozone protects the earth from high energy ultra violet radiation.

Assertion (A) : Presently, the global atmosphere is warming up. Reason (R): The depletion of stratospheric ozone layer has resulted in increase in ultraviolet radiations reaching the Earth.

Assertion (A) : Presently, the global atmosphere is warming up. Reason (R): The depletion of stratospheric ozone layer has resulted in increase in ultraviolet radiations reaching the Earth.

[A] : Depletion of ozone layer results in human disease like cancer . [R] : Ozone layer absorbs UV radiations .

Assertion : Ozone is destroyed by CFCs in the upper stratosphere. Reason : Ozone holes increase the amount of UV radiation reaching the earth.

A : Environmental damage has depleted the ozone layer in the atmosphere. R : Increase in ozone decreases the amount of UV radiation to earth.

Fill in the blanks : Ozone layer prevents the harmful……………… radiation of the sun to reach the earth.

Assertion (A) : Ozone is destroyed by solar radiation in upper streatosphere. Reason (R) : Thinning of the ozone layer allows excessive UV radiations to reach the surface of earth.

Which of the following, present in the stratosphere prevents 99.5 percent of the sun’s harmful UV radiations from reaching the earth’s surface ?

CO_2 and H_2 O absorbs strongly in the infrared region and its presence in the atmosphere decreases the loss of heat from the earth by radiation . This global warming is called the greenhouse effect (other gases , including the oxides of nitrogen from car exhaust freons from aerosols and refrigerators and methane from bacteria in the soil and in the rumen cows , also add to the greenhouse effect ). The concentration of atmospheric CO_2 has increased by 10% . The is resulting in the increase in the mean temperature of the earth by 2. 5^@ C , varying form 2^@ C the equator to 4^@ C at the poles . This could have dramatic effects on the climate. Which of the following is growing at a faster rate than CO_2 and thus responsible for the greenhouse effect ?

Melting of ice caps is due to a)Depletion of ozone layer b)Global warming c)Acid rain d)eutrophication.
